Class AA Girls

100 Meter Dash
Bridgeport's Kayla Haywood defended her championship with a dominant victory, taking the win by almost 0.4 seconds. Herbert Hoover's Emilee Henry and Frankfort's Brooke Snyder were also under 13 seconds in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. 4th through 6th was separated by just 0.05 seconds. One of my predicted placers did not start due to injury. For the record, I did have Trigg picked 7th, so I almost feel like I should get credit for that pick. Oh well.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
As in the 100, it was Bridgeport's Kayla Haywood defending her title with a convincing win. This time by nearly 0.6 seconds. Herbert Hoover's Emilee Henry picked up 2nd again in 26.23 with Frankfort's Brooke Snyder picking up 3rd place again in 26.53, making the top 3 in the 100 and 200 identical. Roane's Josie Raines was also well under 27 seconds in taking 4th. Again, one of my placers did not run due to injury, but this time my 7th place pick didn't score.
RunWV's Current Score: 10 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
Herbert Hoover's Emiliee Henry won going away, taking the win by over a second. Oak Glen's Alex Arnott and Ravenswood's Hailey Miller were both under 61 seconds in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The top 7 were all under 62 seconds. Once again, one of my predicted placers did not compete due to injury, and like in the 100, I had Arnott in 7th.
RunWV's Current Score: 14 of 18.

800 Meter Run
The Berkeley Springs duo of Kinsey Reed and Stephanie Golden held back through the first 200 meters before making a move to the front in the last 100 of the first lap. Reed moved first and Golden responded. Reed led the way through the first lap in 1:10. I think that Keyser's Clarissa Carnell was in 3rd with Ravenswood's Hailey Miller and Independence's Adriana Cook close behind and Braxton's Kate Golinsky rounding out the top 6. Golden made the pass on Reed at about 550 meters. Golden extended the lead and then had to hold off Reed as the pair both came in under 2:24. Miller held the 3rd spot at 2:25.79. Robert C. Byrd's Avery Thrush moved up from 8th to 4th in the 2nd lap to finish at 2:26.64. Golinsky took the 5th spot at 2:28.62. Cook held the 6th position at 2:29.68. Only one other competitor was under 2:32.
RunWV's Current Score: 19 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
Independence's Adriana Cook took the field out quickly, taking the first lap in 1:12. Berkeley Spring's Kinsey Reed went through in 1:13, followed by teammates Stephanie Golden and Danielle Haynes in 1:14, a time matched by Ravenswood's Taylor Treadway in 5th. North Marion's Taylor Trowbridge was in 6th at 1:15. Cook opened a bit of a gap on the 2nd lap, crossing at 2:32 to Reed's 2:34 and Golden's 2:35. Haynes remained in contact at 2:36. Treadway continued to hold 5th at 2:39 with Trowbridge in 6th at 2:40. The field had dropped 3 seconds behind the front 6. Reed made a move in the 2nd turn of the 3rd lap to close up on Cook's shoulder and remained there through the end of lap 3 with both crossing in 3:57. Golden had taken firm control of 3rd, crossing at 4:00. Haynes and Treadway crossed nearly simultaneously at 4:09 with Trowbridge in 6th at 4:12. Cook and Reed continued to battle down the backstretch before Reed shot forward to make the pass just before the turn. She didn't let up, pushing through the finish to take the win in a really strong 5:13.75. Cook easily held onto 2nd in 5:19.91. Golden easily held the 3rd spot in 5:24.13. No one else was under 5:30. Treadway pulled away for 4th in 5:33.32. Trowbridge made the late pass on Haynes for 5th in 5:37.08 to Hayne's 5:38.40. No one else was within 5 seconds.

3200 Meter Run
The field was definitely more aggressive than last year with Berkeley Springs' Kinsey Reed leading them through in 1:17. Indepedence's Adriana Cook was right behind with the same time. Ravenswood's Taylor Treadway was in 3rd at 1:18. Berkeley Springs' Amanda Lupton was in 4th at 1:20. Philip Barbour's Brianna Williams was running 5th in 1:21, a time matched by East Fairmont's Olga Hawranick in 6th. After two laps, Reed and Cook had started to open a gap on the field with Reed still leading the way but with both crossing at 2:40. Treadway was remained in 3rd at 2:43. Lupton held 4th at 2:50. Frankfort's Julianna Butcher and Philip Barbour's Jessica Melvin both came through at 2:51 in 5th and 6th, respectively. Reed and Cook extended their gap on the 3rd lap with Reed still holding the edge but with both crossing at 4:05. Treadway had firm control of 3rd at 4:12. Lupton was still in 4th at 4:21. Melvin had moved into 5th at 4:22, and Butcher was in 6th at 4:23. On the fourth lap, Cook made the pass in the last 100 to move into the lead at the halfway point, coming through in 5:31. Reed followed in 5:32. Treadway was 3rd in 5:43. Lupton and Melvin were together at 5:54 in 4th and 5th. Butcher was in 6th at 5:56. After 5 laps, Cook still held a slim lead over Reed, 6:59 to 7:00. Treadway was easily holding the 3rd spot at 7:16. Melvin had taken over 4th at 7:27. Lupton was in 5th at 7:31, and Butcher was in 6th at 7:32. After 6 laps, Cook had stretched the lead a little coming through in 8:28 to Reed's 8:30. Treadway remained in 3rd at 8:52, but Melvin was starting to close, cutting the gap to 8 seconds at 9:00. Lupton and Butcher were battling for 5th at 9:08. On lap 7, Cook held the lead at 2 seconds, 9:57 to 9:59. I didn't write down times for the other placers and the camera followed the leaders. Treadway was in 3rd, Melvin in 4th, and Lupton and Butcher were still battling for 5th. On the final lap, Cook had more to give and extended the lead to nearly 6 seconds, taking the win at 11:20.04 which is the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Reed came through at 11:25.95. Treadway held the 3rd spot at 11:52.50. Melvin also cracked the 12:00 barrier in 4th at 11:58.50. No one else was under 12:00. Lupton pulled away for 5th at 12:06.72, and Butcher claimed the 6th spot at 12:09.38. Everyone else was at least 18 seconds back.
RunWV's Current Score: 31 of 36.

In a closely contested race, Keyser's Cecilia Napier came over the next-to-last hurdle in 4th but ended up eding past Ritchie's Samantha Kirk for the win with Napier getting a 47.08 and Kirk for a 47.09. Keyser's Micayla Paughhad the lead at the next-to-last hurdle, battling with Kirk and held close at 47.19. North Marion's Mckenzi Fisher also came through under 48 seconds with a 47.81. No one else was under 49 seconds. One of my predicted placers got nailed on a false start.

Bridgeport's foursome of Meleehah Saab, Lexie Sczerba, Jenna Alonge, and Kayla Haywood took the dominant win in 1:46.58. That time stands as the 9th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. They were over 1.7 seconds ahead of anyone else. Keyser was the only team even remotely close at 1:48.36. No one else was under 1:50. Nicholas and Bluefield were the only other teams under 1:51. A year after only 5 teams were under 1:54, we had 11 teams under 1:54. One of my predicted placers didn't end up starting the race.
RunWV's Current Score: 53 of 60.

Bridgeport's Hannah McCall picked up the win by over 7' with a toss of 113'8. Oak Glen's Bridget Bemis through 106'4 in 2nd. Braxton's Shelby Helmick threw 100'8 for 6th. 7 throwers topped 100'.
RunWV's Current Score: 93 of 108.

The final score of 93 of 108 means that 86.1% of the people picked to place did indeed place. That's one of my better showings. Of course, if you look at the team score movement below, there were certainly some significant misses. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
